Review on Comparative Study of Various Automotive Cell Joining Techniques and Challenges

Recent developments in secondary batteries enable their broad daily use, from mobile technology to high energy applications. Secondary batteries with lithium-ion base have a great potential to be utilised for applications with low and high capacity, such portable gadgets, and electric cars. High energy density, low self-discharge and Li-ion-based automotive battery features make it a developing alternative source of power that is being utilised in more powerful electric, hybrid or hybrid plug-in cars. Many separate battery cells linked together form car battery packs used for electromobility applications. In terms of battery performance, capacity and longevity, the adjustment of the different connecting technologies substantially impacts the central features. Consequently, selection of appropriate joining method comprises various aspects relating to electrical and mechanical characteristics and an evaluation of manufacturing and operating circumstances. This comparative review shows the advantages, disadvantages and the material availability for various joining and welding techniques in cell joining.
