The Preliminary Assessment of Energy Storage sizingof Hybrid Solar PV for Smoothing and Shifting applications

Technological advancement and ease of deployments of both Solar and Battery energy storage systems (BESS) are promising to cater to the load demand. The hybridization of two or three technologies to complement the requirements is exploring and accepting ona global level. The right mix of technologies may help in overall project success. The role of Hybridization of technologies has various influencing factors such as radiation levels, technology type, actual demand profile, and the place of deployment. One tool or an approach may be limited to the actual size of the hybrid plant to meet its actual purpose. There are multiple tools are available in the industry to size the system. In such a case starting by choosing the battery type feasibility helps in understanding the role of technology type in the Hybrid plant scope. The present paperoutlines the approach by using available free tools to compare the results to check the preliminary level feasibility of the Solar plus BESS. The choice of battery storage technology will have an impact on the entire power system's utilization and longevity. This analysis may help to properly size a battery-based storage system to integrate into a single Hybrid solar + storage system. This paper has discussed two main applications of Electrical Energy Storage Systems (EES). Because of the growing demand for energy needs, Energy storage plays an important role in this balancing act and helps to create a more flexible and reliable grid system. Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is widely being implemented along with Solar PV to mitigate the inherent intermittencies of solar power. ESS applications like Solar PV energy output smoothing and Solar PV energy output shifting are useful to meet a given demand profile. The objective of this paper is to discuss a preliminary assessment of the energy storage sizing requirements (both in terms of energy and power) of hybrid solar PV and energy storage systems for smoothing and shifting applications.
