Efficient Planning of solar-PV and STATCOM Using Optimization under Contingency

Growing demand of power due to enormous industrialization has stressed researchers to find a way so that power is being supplied reliably and continuously. Reactive power compensation has always been an area of hotspot research as it is associated with voltage profile of power network. Development of FACTS devices have proved to be very beneficial for reactive power compensation but huge costs of installation of FACTS devices are still a major cause for concern for researchers. Also, natural calamity and harsh weather condition can cause failure in some part of power network, so it is required that a power network should be prepared in such a way that if some outage or failure is there, power can be still supplied continuously. The proposed work in this paper deals with finding suitable location and size of FACTS device in order to make system resilient with N-2 contingency, improving overall system performance and providing reliable power network. FACTS device used in the proposed work is STATCOM. Standard 30 bus system has been considered for processing the proposed work. The proposed work in this paper has been processed by taking the help of MATLAB and MATPOWER tool.
