A General Approach to Dependability Assessment of Intelligent Transport Systems

Dependability is an essential factor for Intelligent Transport Systems, as transport is very important for providing a living environment and failures in such a system can lead to a dangerous situation for the road user. The paper suggests using the effectiveness retention ratio as a dependability measure for such systems. This allows taking into account partial failures. The definition of this measure is given, its meaning for Intelligent Transport Systems in few typical cases is specified, and evaluation methods are proposed.
