Blind Chromatic Dispersion Estimation for Coherent Optical Communication Based on Amplitude Spectrum

In this paper, we design and prove a blind chromatic dispersion estimation (CDE) method based on the amplitude spectrum of the received signal modulus. Through numerical simulation, the proposed CDE method shows robustness to nonlinear effects and amplified spontaneous emission (ASE). Single carrier 28 GBaud DP-QPSK or DP-16QAM signals can be reliably estimated by scanning and searching only 1024 samples. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm are verified in a variety of long-distance transmission system. The CD ranges from 1650 ps/nm to 33000 ps/

m, and the standard deviations are lower than 25 ps/nm. Compared with other CDE algorithms, the method based on amplitude spectrum has lower computational complexity and smaller standard deviation, and also has stronger tolerance in terms of transmission damage and nonlinear effects.
