Development of 1 -MW Medium Voltage Power Protection Equipment Based on Modular Multilevel Cascade Tolopogy

Large critical power facilities will have higher voltage, and the current mature low-voltage solution for power protection has small capacity and high cost, so facility owners are looking for a new approach. Pushing the power protection up the network to medium voltage is being considered as a good solution, but medium voltage power protection equipment is not mature. This paper describes the development of a real-scale (1 MW) single-star-bridge-cell-based modular multilevel cascade converter for power protection equipment and reports successful test results obtained from engineering applications.
