Optimized Energy Generation and Power Flow Model to Minimize Power System Operation Cost

Optimal power flow (OPF) is a complex and considerable nonlinear optimization problem in power system transmission, design, planning, and operation related to various constraints. This paper is focused on the linear programming-based interior point method to attain optimized power system operating cost. An analytical-based solution has been proposed where the objective function is to minimize the operating cost by considering network constraints to evaluate the influence of transmission constraints for ensuring the distribution of generation in the most economical way. There are several methods of solving this. However, the linearized method has been approached in this paper for avoiding complexion. A modified network of the Chattogram region of the southeast zone of Bangladesh is considered as the model for optimization. The solution vector and objective function are linearized for the proposed OPF formulation. The solution should be identical to Economic Dispatch if the flows are within the branch limits. Thereby, the Lagrange multipliers for the modeled loading level have been examined, while infinity capacity lines are assumed as the base case. A fruitful discussion is proceeded towards conclusion through a series of case studies, bringing analogy by changing the load from a particular bus and marking the line capacity on a specific branch. The precision and performance of the proposed OPF formulation are investigated by presenting numerical results on how these types of modifications can influence generation amount, branch flows, and nodal prices.
