Linear pulse transformer with pulse repetition up to 5 Hz

The design and the study result of the linear pulse transformer with turns ratio k=1, transformer with k=2, and two transformers with k=2 connected in series are presented. Distinctive features of this transformers are the frequency mode of operation, the absence of a liquid dielectric in their insulation, the placement of a capacitive energy storage inside the case (inductor) and its direct connection to the primary coil without the use of high voltage transmission cables. The capacity of the transformer storage is 150 nF and the stored energy is of 188 J at charge voltage 50 kV. The transformers allows transferring about 60% of the stored energy to a "matched" load in a characteristic time of about 1 µs. Experimental results consist of more than 30 thousand pulse which were performed in frequency mode of operation with the pulse repetition rate of 1-5 Hz. Stable frequency operation of the transformer with a jitter of about 20 ns is realized.
