High Gain, Wide Band 1*8 Microstrip Patch Antenna Array at 28GHz for 5G Communication

This work presents design of microstrip patch antenna (MPA) with a rectangular slot at 28 GHz. Rogers Rt-duroid substrate heightn0.4 mm and gap coupled feeding technique have been found as the best parameters for 5G application requirements. Bandwidth, gain and efficiency of the de-signed single antenna at resonant frequency are 1.25 GHz, 7.9 dB, 92.33% respectively. Moreover, for enhancing the realized gain and directivity of the antenna, an antenna array has been proposed. Defected Ground Structure (DGS) technique is used to reduce the mutual coupling between adjacent array elements and to improve the performance. Computer Simulation Tech-nology “CST” Microwave Studio program has been used for simulating and evaluating the various performance metrics. This software is 3D simulation tool for designing antenna and calculating its various parameters.
