Envelope Stator Current Analysis of an Induction Motor for Short-Circuit Fault Diagnosis

In this paper, a new online methodology for short circuits fault Diagnosis of an induction motor is presented. The proposed approach depends on extracting the stator current envelope using the Hilbert transform, after multiplying this current with a Tukey window, to reduce the effect of transient distortion. Then a discrete wavelet analysis (DWA) and a statistical analysis are performed on Detail coefficients of envelopes to determine the failure thresholds. The results showed that by observing the mean value estimate, it is possible to diagnose inter-turn short circuit fault of the induction motor.
