A wideband SIW hexagonal patch antenna for 5G millimeter-wave applications

This study presents a wideband hexagonal shaped patch antenna for future 5G applications. By applying defected ground structure (DGS) in bottom ground layer of proposed antenna helps to attain wideband operation. The substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) structure is used to enhance the radiation characteristics of proposed hexagonal patch antenna. The 3D EM simulator tool Ansys HFSS 19.1 is used to design and simulate the proposed design. The proposed antenna has compact electrical size of 1.25

and operates in 25.90-44.20 GHz frequency band with 52.21% fractional bandwidth. The peak gain of proposed antenna is 8.52dBi over the entire operating frequency band. The compact size and simple structure make it eminent candidate for 5G millimeter-wave range.
