A Broadband Planar Bow-Tie Antenna with Quasi-Isotropic Coverage

This paper discusses a design of a broadband planar Bow-Tie Antenna for quasi isotropic coverage. The antenna contains a bow-tie shaped dipole and two concave shaped capacitively coupled near field resonant parasitic (NFRP) elements for broad bandwidth (BW) and quasi-isotropic coverage. An angular separation of 90° between its Bow-Tie arms and NFRP elements complement each other radiation and provides nearly isotropic coverage. The designed antenna has simple geometry and feed with planar structure. It provides 40.8% BW with quasi-isotropic coverage and less than 5 dB roundness. The antenna can be effectively used in GPS, 2G and 3G communication to transmit and receive signal without any blind spot.
