Inverse Diffraction Parabolic Equation Model Based on Finite Difference Method for Passive Location on Irregular Terrain

The paper presents an inverse diffraction parabolic equation (IDPE) radio propagation model to implement the precise radiation source positioning for irregular terrain. The IDPE model is efficient solved by the finite difference method (FDM). It is a kind of passive localization technique based forward electromagnetic waves (EWs) propagation. The conventional IDPE model is solved by the split-step Fourier transform (SSFT) method, which has wider grid space and be not suitable for irregular terrain. So its location precision is low. Here, the IDPE based on FDM has higher accuracy than SSFT, which suitable to solve radio propagation problems in complicated surface environment. The local extreme search method is used to quickly find the convergence points of electric field intensity in a certain domain. It can automatically detect and locate one or more the emitter source in complicated environment. The results of IDPE model are compared with those of ARPS, and good agreement is observed. The paper provides a new and convenient technique for passive location of multiple targets in large-scale irregular terrain environment.
