Grid-controlled Electron Gun for the S-band Reversed Cherenkov Oscillator

In this paper, a grid-controlled electron gun is designed and optimized to generate a pencil electron beam for the S-band reversed Cherenkov oscillator (RCO). Under the condition of the anode voltage of 29 kV, the simulation results show that the beam current is 6.8 A, the radius of the electron beam waist is about 1.7 mm, and the range is 18.71 mm. The facts demonstrate that the grid-controlled electron gun can meet the demands of the RCO with the average output power of 45 kW at 2.21 GHz. The RCO can be applied to particle accelerators, medical imaging, microwave heating, and so on.
