The Road to 6G, Vision, Drivers, Trends, and Challenges

In this paper, we will discuss the fifth generation (5G) cellular system driving technologies and major challenges due to the ongoing 5G system deployment. To tackle such challenges, we propose a comprehensive, innovative perspective of the fundamentals of a sixth generation (6G) cellular network. We believe that 6G will be more than just increased range in high-frequency bands; rather, it will represent a confluence of upcoming technology developments driven by remarkable, and essential services. Therefore, initially, we identify the major drivers of 6G cellular system in terms of applications and associated technology trends. Then, we suggest a new set of service classes and reveal their 6G performance targets. moreover, we identify the enabling technologies for the newly launched 6G services and introduce the challenges that may face the 6G deployment. We conclude by introducing the 6G open challenges, and finally making specific proposals for the 6G road plan.
