A Modified Non-bridged Cuk Converter based Electric Vehicle Charger with Reduced Components Count

In the present article, a two-stage charging technique is presented with reduced number of components for the charging of light electric vehicles with improved power factor. Resistive profile is achieved at the supply end with the presented charger. The charger consists of modified non – bridged cuk converter which is provided with input inductance because of which the input current harmonics gets minimized and the use of external filters for rectification of harmonics is not required. In the present work a modified non-bridged cuk converter is presented with reduced number of component which also reduces the size and cost of charger. An isolated flyback converter is employed in next stage because of which the charger is garnished with the property of electrical isolation. The fly back converter takes care of battery profile in different charging modes i.e. constant current (CC) and constant voltage(CV). The converter, in the presented scheme is designed to operate in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) and the simulation results are presented to validate the proposed electric vehicle charger topology.
