A Novel Mobility Management Scheme for UAV Inspection in 5G-empowered Smart Grid

The support and empowerment of 5G wireless communication network is required in smart grid. As one of the application scenarios of 5G-empowered smart grid, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) inspection requires high transmission rate, low latency and high reliability. These requirements and dexterous mobility of UAV bring challenges to the mobility management of the wireless communication network. In this paper, a novel mobility management scheme is proposed, which is called uplink-based pre-handover scheme. As parts of the scheme, a pre-handover decision algorithm is proposed and a pre-handover signaling procedure is designed. As shown in simulation results, the handover failure of proposed scheme is 38% lower than that of traditional scheme.
