Interference Nulling Over Broad Angular Region using Modified Binary Cat Swarm Optimization

Thinned antenna array synthesis process involves optimization of multiple factors like peak sidelobe level (PSLL), first null beamwidth (FNBW), number of active elements etc., simultaneously. Depending on the scope of the application the optimal tradeoff solution can be developed using multi-objective optimization approach. In present work a novel algorithm called modified binary cat swarm optimization (MBCSO) is developed for the synthesis of thinned linear antenna array to trade off PSLL, FNBW and active elements. Using this method, a Pareto-optimal front is obtained which contains all the probable designs acquired during synthesis. A best compromised set of solutions by tradeoff between the FNBW, active elements and SLL is obtained. A 200-element linear antenna array is synthesized using proposed MBCSO to achieve interference nulling over angular region surrounding the main lobe region.
