Tide and Tidal Current Analysis and Prediction Tool

The “SeaTideWave” tool was developed in MATLAB, for processing series of tidal heights and/or currents (speeds and directions) observations, that allows tidal and/or tidal current analysis and predictions, based on astronomy, mathematics, and tidal hydrodynamics. The tool accuracy and quality control were tested according to usual procedures (statistics, residues amplitude spectra and comparisons with official predictions), revealing very satisfactory results for coastal harbours, where the influence of non-linear hydrodynamics is scarce. It is believed that the developed tool is suitable for learning support in Oceanography or Navigation courses and for operations planning, in coastal seas and harbours.
