Digital Pre-Distortion to Correct UWB Pulses in a Boresight Test

We demonstrate the development of digital predistortion for reducing ringing and improving pulse fidelity of a received ultra-wideband (UWB) pulse. We use a software-defined waveform generator to pre-distort an input pulse (0.5-3.9 GHz) sent to an amplifier and an antenna pair in a boresight test. We show that pre-distortion can reduce average ringing by 4.22 dB and increase pulse fidelity by 14.8%. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work that demonstrates ringing reduction in transmitted pulses using a software defined technique.
