CBTC Systems Safety Enhancement by Employing an IoT-Based Spread Spectrum Technique

A novel Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) scheme is introduced based on IoT specifications. Safety requirements of regular systems in accordance with well-known railway standards are discussed and the susceptibility of such systems against electromagnetic interferences (EMI) is investigated. An IoT-based spread spectrum method is proposed to counter the vulnerabilities of CBTC systems in order to meet railway standards. Necessary communications parameters such as CBTC data rate and spreading chip-rate are determined based on railway limitations, for instance train speed. The results of employing the proposed IoT-based scheme over Tehran Metro railway are displayed and additionally, computer simulations are performed for high-speed trains.
