Review of Demand Side Management With Thermostatically Controllable Loads

Renewable energy plays a vital role in today’s microgrid scenario for the generation of electricity in order to reduce greenhouse gases. The intermittent availability of distributed generating sources (D.G.s) and the gradual increase in loads cause severe reliability issues like voltage and frequency abnormalities in the microgrid during peak hours. The usage of a plug-in electric vehicle, Thermostatically Control Loads (TCLs), also increases in day-to-day life. Hence Demand Side Management (DSM) by manipulating such loads proves to be a convincing solution in this aspect in equalizing the generation with demand. This paper presents the review of various techniques in implementing the DSM along with the scheduling of thermostatic control loads during the peak hours to maintain the voltage and frequency adhere to IEEE 1547.1 without compromising the customer quality of comfort (QoS). An extensive amount of literature survey is also carried out in this paper, along with the identification of research gaps, so that the researcher should implement them in their future work to provide quality research.
