A Review and Analysis of Topologies of Light Emitting Diode (LED) Drivers

In the present scenario, LEDs are proving to be a riveting substitute to the conventional lightning system due to their various advantages, such as, long lifespan, high efficiency, high reliability, compact size, minimal power wastage in the form of heat, etc. In the present developing world where energy utilization is the most emerging topic of concern, the LEDs prove to be much more efficient than the conventional light bulbs mainly due to the fact that they require a lot less energy. This energy required by the LEDs is supplied by an electrical device known as LED Driver. In this paper, we have classified various pre-existing proposed topologies of the LED drivers based on the two parameters-isolation and electrolytic capacitor. The topologies are then comparatively analyzed on the basis of various LED parameters such as converter topology, efficiency, number of stages, power factor, etc.
