Impacts of graphene mass-manufacturing processes on bio-FET performance

Bio-FET based biosensors offer extremely high specificity and sensitivity compared to conventional lab techniques for detecting the presence of an analyte, and graphene-based bio-FET's have the potential to further improve this performance. Unfortunately, manufacturing graphene FETs presently requires specialized manufacturing processes not available in most chip foundries. This paper presents a background on the design and function of bio- FET sensors as well as some of the challenges facing their widespread adoption. In this paper we present a background to the functioning, design, and challenges facing the use and manufacture of graphene bio- FETs, as well as simulation tools and possible future research focuses, with an eye towards taking advantage of graphene manufacturing intended for conventional digital circuits.
