Device Type Independent Energy Management of Sector-Coupled Residential Energy Systems

The energy system is becoming increasingly complex due to sector coupling, which adds new loads and producers with inherently different characteristics. This study presents a device type independent energy management algorithm based on an auction mechanism, i.e. the continuous Japanese auction. A case study is performed to evaluate the algorithm by comparing it to a reference that describes a status quo control. The case study represents a small district energy system with 6 household loads, five heat pumps, one combined heat and power system, four electric vehicles and five PV systems. In order to understand the algorithms effect, the results for one day are qualitatively evaluated. Furthermore, the simulation is carried out for an entire year and own consumption, self-sufficiency, as well as minimal and peak load are calculated. For the case study, the algorithm increased the self-sufficiency by 25% and the own consumption by 13 %. Minimal and peak-load were improved by 1% and 6 %, respectively.
