Performance Comparison of PML and Chiral Absorbing Boundary Condition in FDTD for Electromagnetic Scattering Problems

In this paper, we show performance comparison of Perfectly Matched Layer Absorbing Boundary Condition (PML-ABC) and Chiral Absorbing Boundary Condition (CABC) for Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) method to solve Electromagnetic scattering problems. Here, the comparison is shown for the far-field responses from complex three-dimensional objects. The Numerical results of normalized root mean square error are shown. The CABC is found to be a better absorber than PML-ABC with an improvement of nearly 10 dB to 11 dB for canonical shapes and 17.50 dB for typical aircraft with two times more computational time and memory compared to PML-ABC.
