Modelling and Analysis of Distribution System Performance with Integration of Electric Vehicle Charging Station in Real-time Environment

The evolution of electric mobility has led the automobile sector to rejuvenate drastically and introduce the concept of electric vehicles (EVs) in order to combat with carbon emission. Therefore, charging stations are essential to quench the needs of these progressively sprouting EVs. The integration of these exponentially increasing EV charging station (EVCS) to the existing grids are of significant challenge to distribution grid as well as the charging station owners. This paper proposes hardware in loop (HIL) based integration of EVCS at optimal location in distribution system considering voltage sensitivity factor (VSF), voltage stability index (VSI), and ampacity limit of the conductor as the governing parameters. Firstly, EVCS integration feasibility is tested through distribution load flow (DLF) using MATLAB. This is followed by creating different cases to monitor the behavior of the modelled IEEE-33 bus network with the integration of EVCS of variable capacity in the identified strong and weak buses to efficate the results. The simulations are performed in real-time Typhoon HIL so that the practical feasibility of the proposed work can be utilized for quick deployment in distribution system.
