Breast MRI Registration Using Metaheuristic Algorithms

Ten percent of the women in the whole world are suffering from breast cancer in their lives. Breast MRI registration is an important task to align MR images of pre-and post-contrast for diagnosis and classification of cancer type into benign and malignant using pharmacokinetic analysis. It is also very much essential to align images that are to be taken in various time intervals to isolate the lesion of small intervals. This registration technique is also useful to monitor various types of cancer therapies. The main enlightenment of algorithms used for image registration has also transferred from a control point for semi-automated techniques, to sophisticated voxel-based automated techniques which use mutual information as a resemblance measure. In this manuscript, breast MRI registration using Multi-verse optimization (MVO) algorithm and Student Phycology based optimization (SPBO) algorithm is proposed; MVO and SPBO are metaheuristics-based Optimization algorithm which we have applied to register breast MR images. We have considered 40 pairs of breast MR-images of pre and post-contrast. After that, images are registered using MVO and SPBO algorithms. The results of the SPBO-based breast MRI registration method are compared with that MVO-based registration method. The experimental results inferred that the SPBO-based registration method statistically outperforms the MVO-based registration method in the registration of breast MR images.
