Design and Implementation of a 2.1-kV Charging Power Supply for Capacitor Array of Pulse Power Modulators

For pulsed power systems, such as pulsed lasers and flash lamps, the pulse power modulator is required to offer high instantaneous power in a relatively short time. The required energy can be provided by fast charge and discharge energy storage capacitors. When charging the capacitor, rather than constant voltage mode, it is generally desirable to perform with constant current. This article is in view of a full-bridge-based series resonant constant current power supply, which includes topology research, model building, units design and relative experiments. The power supply has charged the 810µF capacitor array, consisting of sixteen capacitors, from 0-2100Vdc. The input is 380V/50Hz, and the output voltage is 2100Vdc. At the same time, it realizes soft switching, which improves efficiency and reduces switching loss.
