DRL-based Energy Efficient Communication Coverage Control in Hierarchical HAP-LAP Network

A swarm of Low Altitude Platform Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (LAP UAV) are widely used to serve as flying Base Stations (BSs) to enhance both the coverage and performance of communication networks in various scenarios, such as emergency communications and network access for remote areas. In addition, the energy efficient is one of the key assessment in the network coverage task and be thoroughly considered. The integration of both high and low altitude platform drones in such tasks, however, does not be ubiquitously utilized due to some challenging nature properties of the HAV. In this paper, we proposed a DRL-based coverage allocation decision for the hierarchical HAP-LAP network, in which the HAP UAV assigns the spots in-need of connectivity provided by the swarm of BS UAVs, whilst considering their efficient energy consumption of the set of flying BS.
