Guest Editorial: Optical Systems and Technologies for 6G Mobile Networks

The twenty-three papers in this special section focus on optical systems and technologies for 6G mobile communications. These papers relate to the use of optical technologies in radio networks and systems for the evolution towards the 6th generation of mobile networks. Specifically, there are papers on the network architecture, high-capacity transmission and switching systems, photonic elements for integrated radio systems, microwave photonics, integrated photonics, and technologies for opto-electronic HW. Our main objective was to select high-quality papers spanning all those sectors in fact, to provide the journal’s readers a broad perspective of all technologies and systems that will be relevant for the realization of future mobile networks.
