A Miniaturized Planar Antenna with Optimized Slots and DGS for UWB Applications

Microstrip antennas are utilized in applications where size, weight, cost, and performance are limited. Microstrip antennas (MSA) are utilized in a variety of government and commercial applications, the most common of which being wireless communication. A miniature rectangular shape planar antenna with defective ground structure (DGS) is conceived for ultrawideband applications under this article. The proposed antenna is printed on FR4 substrate material and has an overall dimension of
$17\ \text{mm}\times 10\ \text{mm}\times 1.6\ \text{mm}$
. It works over the UWB frequency range and has a bandwidth of 5.75 GHz to 12.86 GHz. This presented antenna has a peak gain of 5.4 dB and radiation efficiency of 98% efficiency. The compact antenna is a basic overlay design comprising rectangular patches and optimized slots with a partial ground plane that exhibits good gain and improved directivity.
