Model Predictive Control of Four-Switch Buck-Boost Converter for Pulse Power Loads

In the DC microgrid power system, because of the limited total inertia of the system, the pulsed power load is particularly problematic. To decrease the unfriendly effect of pulsed power loads, a storage capacitor may be generally associated with the output terminal of the power supply. However, because of the strict voltage drop limit on the DC bus, the storage capacitor is greatly vast when the pulsed power load will be high. In this paper, a four-switch buck-boost (FSBB) built active capacitor converter (ACC) will be received set up of the storage capacitor, toward deliberately expanding its voltage ripple, then the capacity of the capacitor is extraordinarily diminished. To improve the dynamic response of the ACC, a finite control set model predictive control (FCS-MPC) scheme is utilized. A multi-constrained cost function is proposed to reduce the voltage drop on the DC bus. The predictive model of the converter and model predictive control algorithm is elaborated, followed by which Matlab/Simulink is conducted to verify the proposed model predictive control.
