Low-power Design and Implementation of An Ice-based Towed Ocean Upper Layer Profiling Buoy

Arctic sea-ice-air interactions play a crucial role in the study of global climate change. The ice-based towed upper layer ocean profiling buoy has been developed for the need of long-term acquisition of atmospheric, sea ice and ocean profiling observations in the Arctic region. This paper describes the composition of the system, the scheme of design an efficient power management, including microcontroller design, unit circuit power management, system workflow, and uses the Iridium 9602 module to achieve remote transmission of data in real time. The PCF2129 real-time clock chip interrupt output is used to realize turning on and off the system power system, achieving a very low standby power consumption of only 85uA. After the system is developed and deployed in the Arctic, it has been proved that it works stably and reliably by long-term operation and has realized low power consumption design.
