AMC-Based Dualband Microstrip Antenna for Wireless Communication

One of the methods used to overcome the shortage of microstrip antennas is to apply AMC. This paper investigates the effect of AMC structures in the form of square-shaped resonator rings given capacitive elements. Two layers of 1.6 mm thick FR4-epoxy substrate with a length and width of 52 mm × 52 mm each were used for design and simulation. The resonator ring as AMC is placed at the top of the second layer with a length and width of 23.8 mm x 23.8 mm, respectively. To prove the AMC structure which can produce several resonant frequencies, a conventional single-band antenna is made as a comparison. The simulation results show that the proposed microstrip antenna is proven to produce 2 resonant frequency responses at 1.7 GHz and 2.025 GHz.
