Comparison between different portions of the skin for transdermal drug delivery by Microplasma

In this era, the medical field has developed immensely and there are various kinds of drug administration such as oral, inhalation, transdermal drug delivery (TDD), or intravenous injection. Through the oral route, some issues can raise during absorbing of drug such as gastrointestinal motility, the effect of metabolism, slow-onset action and for unconscious people oral route is impossible to deliver the drug. This research is emphasized on Microplasma technique. The purpose of the research is to define the absorbance and penetration condition of skin between the different skin portions of body. Yucatan micropig’s skin and Telmisartan drug are used for this experiment to compare skin samples from the hip and shoulder portion. The main experiment was done by using Franz cell and HLPC analysis. Where the penetration of the hip portion for Telmisartan was lower than the shoulder portion and the absorbance of hip’s portion by Microplasma was higher than the shoulder portion. From Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), no significant difference was observed between the hip and shoulder except the effect of microplasma treatment in both samples. Transepidermal water loss (TEWL) was measured to check the evaporation rate of hip and shoulder portion. From TEWL, the result of shoulder portion showing less barrier function than hip portion.
