The Upper Bound of Capacity for Multi-Mode Networking with Multi-beam Antenna Array

Considering a disk of a unit area with n nodes, these nodes obey the homogeneous Poisson Point Process with a distribution density of parameter μ. Our purpose is to investigate the capacity of this wireless ad hoc network which uses directional multi-beam transmission technology. Supposing that the network can bear a maximum outage probability of ε, the network capacity could be defined as the product of the data rate, the maximum transmission density when transmitting successfully, and it may be expressed as ${C_\varepsilon }(\mu ) \triangleq \lambda {\mu _\varepsilon }(1 - \varepsilon )$. First, we construct the multi-beam directional antenna and interference area models and propose a low complexity method to calculate the network capacity. Then, based on the concept of random geometry, we analyzed the network architecture and calculated both the maximum data transmission rate and the node density under this condition. Finally, we analyzed the capacity performance among different node's working modes and evaluated the advantages of different modes.
