Optimal Placement of DG in the Radial Distribution System for Mitigating the Impact of EV Charging Stations

The degradation of fossil fuels across the world has guided a path to research on the alternative energy source. The most dominant usage of fossil fuels is meant for transportation purposes. The alternate energy sources for transportation have become a key point for the future due to the depletion of conventional sources and carbon emission from vehicles that leads to Electric Vehicles (EV). Considering the environmentally nature-friendly usage of electric vehicles, most commonly Plugin-based electric vehicles (PEV) are escalating in recent years than the conventional energy sourced vehicles. However, incorporating the PEV in the distributed system has new challenges. In this paper, the impact of PEV integration in the distribution system on reliability, power losses, and voltage stability are analyzed. Different strategies of electric vehicles are considered for evaluating the impact. Based on the research methodologies, disturbed generators are incorporated to suppress the PEV impact in the system. In the motive of increasing PEV usage, charging stations are equipped with solar PV units. Even though, there is the incidence of certain impacts in distribution network due to electric vehicle charging stations. To overcome the possible impacts and to develop a self-sustainable and reliable system, this research work proposes a methodology to determine and mitigate the total power loss and increase the voltage magnitude in the distribution system to reduce the impact of the electric vehicle charging station. Furthermore, the constant power, current, impedance, and plug-in electric vehicles load models are investigated. The optimal location of DG is substantiated under MATLAB environment and experimental results are presented in this paper considering the unbalanced IEEE 33 bus test case system.
