FEM Modeling and Analysis of the Double Channel Linear Switched Reluctance Motor

This paper presents a detailed performance analysis of a 3-phase double channel 320 W 2.5 m/s linear switched reluctance motor. The motor geometry, based on a design developed in the laboratory, has been modified to achieve precise electromagnetic balance in the three-phase windings even in presence of end effects. This has been validated by FEM simulated results that the phase windings has symmetric L(θ) profile. Moreover, a modified asymmetric bridge converter is also proposed, which is capable of a 4-quadrant operation of the motor. The proposed converter gives an option of independent control of the parallel channels of the phases using a lower number of power electronic devices. The machine has been modeled and analysed using standard FEA software, and the simulated results are found to be in agreement with the analytically calculated values.
