Design, Development and Performance Analysis of Permanent Magnet Flywheel Magneto with Regulator Rectifier

This paper presents the step by step analytical design procedure for outer rotor flywheel magneto. The outer rotor permanent magnet flywheel magneto (PMFWM) is superior for vehicle applications due to its robustness, little maintenance and low cost configuration. In this work, the design and performance analysis of a radial flux outer rotor type PMFWM for vehicle applications is presented. At first, elementary configurations like material types, magnet sizing, airgap length, stator and rotor dimensions and additional electrical parameters are studied. The performance parameters of PMFWM like generated power, speed vs emf, speed vs current etc. are then calculated. MATLAB/Simulink is used for DC current calculation and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) method is used to analyse this PMFWM in order to get the simulated performance with flux densities and power calculations. PMFWM prototype is built and tested based on proposed design procedure. The simulation and test results verify the correctness of design procedure.
