A Reliable Level-1 Onboard Charger of a Light Electric Vehicle for Smart Homes with Seamless Transition Capability

Level-1 charging of an LEV in a smart home is studied in this work. The performance of a two-stage isolated OBC (onboard charger) under different modes of operation is discussed. The different modes of operation are solar to the vehicle (S2V), battery to the vehicle (B2V), grid to the vehicle (G2V) and vehicle to home load (V2H). A smart home with a renewable energy source (solar PV array) uses the smart energy management device (SEMD). The SEMD is responsible for uninterruptable supply to the critical home loads. The design, control and operation of the proposed system comprising of SEMD and OBC are validated.
