Reinforcement Techniques for Efficiency Improvement of a Distribution Feeder

This paper attempts to exemplify the energy management methods that can be implied in the 11kV Nagarkot distribution feeder in Nepal. The data of the circuit parameters of the distribution feeder and transformers loading have been obtained from the Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping and literature works. The simulation of the existing feeder has been modeled in the Electrical Transient and Analysis Program (ETAP). The reinforcement techniques like conductor upgrading, re-routing of the feeder, optimal capacitor placement, and their combination implied in Nagarkot Feeder have been modeled in the ETAP. The simulations have been carried out with the loss reduction techniques at different distribution transformer (DTR) loading. The comparison of bus voltages at existing conditions, and after implementation of reinforcement practice shows improvement in the voltage profile of the feeder. The efficiency of the feeder has improved with the application of loss reduction techniques.
