Abstract:
It is a well agreed upon subject that bad posture leads to serious health complications from toddlers to elderly. This bad posture can be a result of a serious injury, an aftermath of a surgery or a tragic birth defect. Long term effects of such posture not only give rise to orthopaedic issue but nervous and cardiovascular as well. This paper presents a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) and gyroscope-based concept design for alleviating back pain and improving form by offering lumbar support in real time. The three gyroscopes placed at the back of the user to accurately measure wearers body orientation. The data from the gyroscopes are processed using a digital design developed using Very high-speed integrated circuit Hardware Description Language (VHDL) and it is validated in the simulation environment using the appropriate testbench. The presented system proved to have an accuracy of detecting the angle variation of the body position to 0.005 degree. The proposed design is intended to tackle the deploy ability and reliability issues found most in the existing systems. Versatility is the key to the design proposed as it can be interfaced with several other cosmetic devices and it can be customized based on the consumer’s needs.
