Analysis of Motion Detection System Sensitivity with Light Intensity

Motion detection system is a technology that is increasingly being used in the current era. With this system, humans can be facilitated in carrying out their daily activities. Motion detection can be done in various ways, and one of them is using the help of the camera. However, the image produced by the camera is affected by the intensity of the light captured. The purpose of this study is to analyze the sensitivity of the motion detection system using a camera to changes in light intensity by using the OpenCV and python programming languages and to analyze the number of pixels produced by the system as a reference for controlling the lights. The results showed that the sensitivity of the motion detection system could be affected by the intensity of light captured by the camera. The number of pixels produced becomes greater in value when the light given is brighter. However, from the three light intensity conditions tested, the motion detection system didn't fail to detect motion and didn't fail to control the lights. This is because the number of pixels produced by the system when detecting motion was above 750000. One example of the test results in Table 2 shows that when the light intensity was in bright light, the number of pixels produced was 1539593. In low light conditions, the number of pixels produced was 1012728. In dark light conditions, the number of pixels produced was 891229.
