Creation of a Starting Model of the Reservoir Based on a Set of Well Data

An approach to creating a starting model of a reservoir system based on a set of well data is considered. At the first stage, a skeleton of the reservoir system is formed, consisting of depth marks at the locations of the wells. The created wireframe is used to construct sub-horizontal surfaces that describe the boundaries of layers. For this purpose, the apparatus of smoothing splines with a special regularizing additives is used. Consideration of local reservoir heterogeneities is carried out using two types of contours, the vertical boundaries of which are set in template coordinates, and the lateral constraints are set by the cells of the Voronoi diagram. At the final stage, the heights of the reservoir system surfaces are corrected to correspond oil-water contact. The research results obtained for the model of real field showed that the use of smoothing splines to construct the surfaces of layers leads to extremely insignificant deviations from the depth marks and true thicknesses of these layers at the locations of the wells. It was also shown that it is possible to correctly approximate both the near-wellbore and interwell space of the model using a set of contours that define material and saturation inhomogeneities. Also, the application of the procedure for transforming the boundaries of the reservoir system in order to provide correct oil-water contact practically did not change the oil reserves in the reservoir.
