Automatic Room Sanitization Using UV-C Tubes

The current study intends to help in the battle against the transmission of COVID-19, a new human coronavirus, in any closed region of the study room, institution classroom, or laboratory. In this study, we used a NodeMCU to create a room sanitizing device based on Ultraviolet-C radiation. It operates in a completely automatic mode and does not need to be monitored on a continual basis. It features a motion detection security system that shuts off the designed system when activated; after a while, if no motion is detected, the system automatically switches back on. For experimental testing, the gadget is programmed to sanitize/ disinfect the room for 45, 15, 30, and 60 minutes, with 45 minutes being the default time setting. The method presented here can be scaled-up to provide greater ultraviolet doses by adding more UV-C tubes. This simple yet effective system is easy to set up and costs less than INR 3800. This device has various benefits over chemical based sanitizing procedures, including great efficacy due to the use of UV-C tubes.
