Power optimisation Scheme for Electric Vehicle using Induction Motor

The transportation sector plays a vital role globally. Energy efficiency in transportation is traced in terms of fuel consumption i.e. battery or electricity in case of electric vehicle. The main intention of this paper is to address analysis of control strategies and optimisation techniques for enhancing the performance of induction motor (IM) drives used in EV. IM works efficiently following loss minimization and preferably used due to high stability as well as low cost. As this paper is concerning the enhancement of IM performance, conventional PID control strategy is used in the beginning followed by optimization by replacing PID with fuzzy logic controller (FLC). In PID control method, speed parameters are compared to generate an error which is reduced with the help of PID block to eventually generate torque. This torque along with flux produces reactive component of current $(\mathrm{i}_{\mathrm{s}\mathrm{q}})$. On the other hand, in second strategy, the conventional PID method is replaced with intelligent control technique FLC. Both the algorithms are examined in MATLAB/Simulink software and the outputs are compared, implying that FLC gives better performance than PID in terms of speed, torque and current with respect to time. The performance of FLC highly depends on fuzzy rules and MF variables, which are determined by trial and error procedure.
