Development of speed control for High Voltage BLDC ceiling fan using Regulator

The existing ceiling fan market is dominated by single phase Induction motor $(1-\Phi\ \text{IM})$ and around 95% of India's total ceiling fans are based on $1-\Phi$ IM, which consume power of 70W to 90W. The Brushless DC (BLDC) motors reduce power consumption in Appliances to approximately 50% and in Ceiling fan improves its power consumption approx. to 35W to achieve the Air delivery of 210cu m/min. By replacing IM ceiling fans with BLDC ceiling fans around 147 billion units of Energy can be saved in India in one application. In this paper, a High Voltage BLDC ceiling fan using capacitive regulator to vary the speed is presented. The Design approach on Inverter for Ceiling Fan includes EMI Filter Section, Power Factor correction section (BD7693F J), Inverter section (BM6242FS), Digital Motor Control section (dsPIC33CK series MCU), Motor section (High Voltage BLDC motor) and Regulator Speed regulation. The results using the proposed design has been very encouraging.
