Modeling and Implementation of Multiphase Switched-Capacitor Coupled-Inductor Converter

The modeling and implementation of a closed-loop scheme of multiphase switched-capacitor coupled-inductor (MSCCI) converter is presented to achieve high-gain DC-DC step-up conversion/regulation. The MSCCI’s power part is a cascade structure from supply Vs to output Vo, including a three-stage switched-capacitor booster and a coupled inductor involved. The gain can be boosted to 4[n+1+(1+nD)/(1−D))] at most theoretically, where n is turn ratio of coupled inductor and D is the duty cycle of pulse-width modulation (PWM), e.g., max. of Vo reaches 44 times value of Vs while n=4, D=0.5. It is noteworthy that fewer components are just needed for this high gain with the help of multiphase operation. Further, the MSCCI’s modeling is derived, and the simulation/experiment cases are illustrated/verified on the prototype so as to present the efficacy of MSCCI’s scheme.
