Flexible Form Factor Digital Optical Current Sensor With Triple Redundancy

In this paper, a new current sensor with 3 sensors in a single sensing head cable is presented. The sensors perform to the IEC 0.2 accuracy class over the -40°C to +50°C temperature range for metering and protection applications. These new sensors in the same sensing cable provide redundancy for lower installation costs and less space needed for the sensors. The output of the sensors can be from DC to 20 kHz. The primary output of the sensor is in a digital format, IEC 61850-9-2LE, suitable for Smart-Grid applications in a digital substation.
